Age friendly communities

Wakefield House staff ready to deliver meals to vulnerable community members.

An age friendly community considers the needs of older people to create a barrier free environment so that people of all ages and abilities can participate. If an environment is welcoming and accessible for older people, it will also be inclusive for all.

The City of Onkaparinga is recognised as an age friendly region that is accessible and inclusive to all however there is always room for improvement and to assist in identifying barriers, we have created an interactive Age Friendly audit tool.

This audit tool was co designed with community centre boards of management, staff, volunteers and centre users to help the centres better understand the experience of older people who access the centre, what barriers they face and where there is opportunity to improve their experience.

This tool will be available digitally using QR codes and hard copy from March 2023.
