Aboriginal Heritage and Culture

(Since ancient times Kaurna people have occupied this country)

The importance of heritage, language and cultural expression cannot be over-stated.

Kaurna people have been contributing to cultural heritage policy and the development of key coastal locations such as Christies Beach, Pt Noarlunga, Moana and Pt Willunga for many years.

This has been recently brought together in the Kaurna Tappa Iri Regional Agreement 2005-2008, a cooperative venture between the Kaurna Heritage Board and the City of Onkaparinga, Marion, Holdfast Bay and District Council of Yankalilla.

The Agreement has been recognised nationally for its wide scope, new thinking and practicality and its determination to develop knowledge, business skills and confidence around Aboriginal culture and heritage.
