Comparison of Centrelink Benefits

The extent of Centrelink benefits received in the City of Onkaparinga is put into context by comparison with other Local Government Areas (LGA) and the state as a whole.  Playford has been selected because it is a 'growth area' and Marion because it is adjacent to Onkaparinga. 

There was 30.8% of the estimated resident population in the City of Onkaparinga at the 30 June 2008, receiving Centrelink benefits.  This is considerably lower than Marion's proportion of 42.3% and Playford at 47.6%.

  • a lower proportion of aged pensioners than Marion and South Australia
  • a lower level of rent assistance than Marion and Playford
  • similar levels of disability support, and Newstart allowance to South Australia
  • higher levels of single parent pensions than Marion and SA, and lower than Playford.
