2006 South Australian State Election Results
The South Australian state election was held on 18th March 2006, and resulted in a second consecutive win for the Australian Labor Party (ALP). The swing to Labor from the last election was 8.9%. In 2002 Labor received 36.3% of the vote, in 2006 this rose to 45.2%.
The eleven vacant seats in the Legislative Council were distributed as follows: ALP 4, Liberal Party 3, Independent (Nick Xenophon) 2, Family First Party 1, Australian Greens 1. The seats were won by 3 female and 8 male candidates.
The forty-seven seats in the House of Assembly were distributed as follows: ALP 28, Liberal Party 15, National Party 1, Independents 3. The seats were won by 17 female and 30 male candidates.
The next State election is scheduled to take place on 20th March, 2010.
Electorates in the City of Onkaparinga
The electorates of Fisher (Ind), Kaurna (ALP), Mawson
(ALP) and Reynell (ALP) are wholly within the boundaries of the
City of Onkaparinga,
while Bright (ALP), Davenport (Lib), Heysen (Lib) and Mitchell
(ALP) straddle the boundaries of Onkaparinga and other Local
Government Areas. An Electoral Boundaries map is presented at the

Non-voters
There are 178,251 registered voters in the eight
electorates which cover the City of Onkaparinga. There were 165,577
votes
received, which means that 12,674 people (7.1%) did not vote.
This was slightly (0.9%) below the average for metropolitan
Adelaide, where 8% of registered voters did not vote in the
last election. The percentage of non-voters ranged from 6.2%
in the electorate of Newland to 9.5% in Enfield and 10.8%
in Adelaide.
