Number of offences recorded, 2001 - 2005
There were 21,839 offences recorded in the Onkaparinga Local Government Area in the year to December 2005. This was a decrease of almost 9% on the 2004 total of 23,5991 offences, and a decrease of 19.6% on the 2002 high of 27,178 offences.

Offence rates
The 2005 offence rate for the City of Onkaparinga was 141.3 per 1,000 persons, compared to 184.4 per 1,000 persons in the metropolitan area – a difference of 23%. The City of Onkaparinga has consistently recorded lower crime rates than the metropolitan area for the five years from 2001 to 2005.

Types of offences, 2005
Onkaparinga’s crime rates are significantly below those of the metropolitan area as a whole in all but two areas: offences against good order (1.4 per 1,000 higher) and drug offences (0.2 per 1,000 higher).

The highest offence rate in 2005 was in the North Coast SLA, at 353.7 per 1,00 persons compared to a rate of 141.3 for Onkaparinga as a whole. The other six SLAs had lower crime rates than Adelaide for 2005, although Hackham (171.9 per 1,000) and Morphett (157.2 per 1,000) had higher rates than Onkaparinga as a whole. The lowest crime rates were recorded for the Reservoir SLA (62.2 per 1,000).
