Vocational Education and Training, City of Onkaparinga 2005 & 2006

There were 12,230 residents of the City of Onkaparinga attending vocational education and training (VET) courses in 2005. Of these, 2,650 were studying as apprentices or vocational trainees. Reservoir Statistical Local Area (SLA) had the largest number of VET students (2,400), followed by South Coast SLA (2,140) and Hills SLA (1,960). The VET students were evenly divided in terms of gender: 48% male and 51% female. The 2005 total of 12,230 enrolments represented 12.4% of the City’s residents aged between 15 and 60, compared with 12.1% in 2004.

Fields of study
The major fields of study for Onkaparinga’s VET students in 2005 were: Management and commerce (20%); Engineering and related technologies (17%); Society and culture (9%) and Food, hospitality (7%). The largest proportion of students (29%) was in mixed field programs or single subjects.

Apprentices and trainees
Between 2004 and 2005 the number of apprentices and trainees in Onkaparinga fell by 308 (10%) from 2,958 to 2,650. In 2005 Onkaparinga’s 2,650 apprentices and vocational trainees were distributed across five main fields: Sales and service (43%); Trades and related (24%); Associate professionals (16%); Laborers (9%) and Production and transport (8%)

Noarlunga Campus of TAFE, 2006 enrolments and fields of study (b)
