Fleurieu Peninsula
The City of Onkaparinga is situated on the Fleurieu Peninsula, one of South Australia’s major tourism regions which attracted an estimated 639,000 overnight visitors in 2006. The Fleurieu Peninsula is bordered by the Gulf St Vincent to the west, the Southern Ocean to the south-east and the Murray River to the north. Many of the attractions of the Fleurieu tourist region lie within the boundaries of the City of Onkaparinga, including beaches, water sports, conservation and National parks, historical sites, markets, galleries, specialty foods, cafes, restaurants, wine, recreational sports and activities, tours, resorts, festivals and much more.

The table below shows takings from accommodation. Please note that these are totals for the entire Fleurieu, not just the City of Onkaparinga. In 2006 holiday accommodation on the Fleurieu Peninsula took a total of $23,878,663, which represented 6% of the total takings for South Australia ($400,447,790). Hotels, motels and apartments took almost $9.7 million, caravan parks took over $8.7 million and holiday flats and houses took about $5.4 million.

Mc Laren Vale
The Mc Laren Vale region is an important part of the Fleurieu Peninsula tourist region. Located 37 kilometers from Adelaide, the Mc Laren Vale region attracts thousands of day visitors and longer-term holiday makers each year. Mc Laren Vale is one of South Australia’s premier wine regions, with over 65 cellar doors and 50 established wineries. Mc Laren Vale has numerous other tourist attractions including restaurants, local arts and produce, a wide range of accommodation, tours and scenery.
