Employment

Sixty-eight percent (8,367) of businesses had employees and 32% (3,924) did not. Of the employing businesses, almost 92% had fewer than 20 employees. The most numerous businesses in Onkaparinga were:

  • Construction, with a total of 2,877 businesses of which 2,133 (74%) were non-employing and 744 (26%) had employees
  • Property & Business Services, with a total of 2,334 businesses of which 1,629 (70%) were non-employing and 705 (30%) had employees.

Turnover

The majority (40%) of businesses in the City of Onkaparinga in June 2006 had turnovers of less than $75,000 per annum while 31% made between $75,000 and $200,000. The table and graph below show the main categories of business and their annual turnover ranges. The main types of businesses making between $2 million and $10 million were Retail Trade (66 businesses), Finance & Insurance (54 businesses) and Manufacturing (15 businesses). The main types of businesses making over $10 million were Finance & Insurance (27 businesses) and Manufacturing (15 businesses).
