Families in the City of Onkaparinga, 2001-2006

The 2006 Census revealed that 45.3% of Australian families consisted of couples with child/ren. This was slightly (0.6%) higher than the City of Onkaparinga, in which 44.7% of families consisted of couples with child/ren.

In the five years since the 2001 Census, the percentage of couples with children has declined by 3%, while the percentage of couples without children has increased by 2.6% and single-parent families have increased by 0.4%, as shown in the table and chart below.

The maps which follow show that the greatest concentrations of

• Couples with dependant children are in Aberfoyle Park, Chandler’s Hill, Ironbank, Moana and Tatachilla
• One-parent families with dependant children are in Aldinga, Aldinga Beach, parts of Hackham and Huntfield Heights, Noarlunga Downs and Seaford Rise.
• Couples without dependant children are in Flagstaff Hill, McLaren Vale, McLaren Flat, O’Sullivan’s Beach, Port Willunga and Woodcroft.

The 2006 Census results show a slight (2.9%) decline in the percentage of married people in 2006, compared to 2001, as well as 1.9% more people who had never married and 1.2% more divorced people.
