Population change, Adelaide Metropolitan councils, 2001 - 2006
Between 2001 and 2006 the City of Onkaparinga’s population grew by 2.26%. This was 1.64% lower than the Adelaide Statistical Division and 0.58% lower than South Australia as a whole. With an estimated population of 154,417, Onkaparinga maintains its position as the largest Local Government Area (LGA) in South Australia.
There are two main measures of growth: population increase and growth rate as a percentage of the population. Within the Adelaide Metropolitan area, between 2001 and 2006, the City of Salisbury had the largest population increase (7,639) followed by Adelaide City (4,434), Port Adelaide Enfield (4,401) and Mt Barker (3,808). The largest growth rates between 2001 and 2006 were Adelaide City (33.4%), followed by Mt Barker (16%) and Salisbury (6.67%).
