Age Structure
The 2006 Census showed that the age structure of the City of Onkaparinga is as follows:
- 41,226 people (27.5% of the total) are aged 0-19 years
- 72,264 people (48.3% of the total) are aged 20-54 years
- 36,246 people (24.2% of the total) are aged 55 years and over.
The table below shows the 2006 enumerated population
in 5-year age cohorts. This is the count of people present on the
night of 8th August, 2006. Other population results are based on
the Estimated Resident Population, which is calculated by the Australian
Bureau of Statistics (ABS) for 30th June each year.These figures
are available in the Corporate Statistics section of this website.
The population figures used in the Stats and Facts website are
all Census based, but may be enumerated, estimated or place of
usual residence totals, whichever is most appropriate.

The 2006 Census showed that the City of Onkaparinga has a higher proportion of children aged 0-14 years (20.2%) than the Adelaide Statistical Division (17.8%) but a lower proportion of 70-84 year olds (Onkaparinga 7.1% / Adelaide 9.3%). The proportions were similar in all other age groups, with differences of plus or minus 1% or less.
