Composting

As a means of reducing the amount of organic matter that goes to landfill and reducing the production of greenhouse gas emissions, we support our communities and businesses to participate in composting.

Composting is a very worthwhile pursuit because it produces useable compost, worm castings and worm tea which are very beneficial for our soil and plants. These products add nutrients, microbial diversity and increase the water holding capacity of your soil. You will start seeing food scraps and garden waste not as rubbish but as a resource to be recovered and used in your home compost systems.

In spring and autumn we offer a series of workshops on composting methods, worm farming and Bokashi composting in various locations throughout our council area.

City of Onkaparinga residents can also purchase a variety of composting systems and worm farms at a subsidised rate.

Bokashi mix is also available at four of our community centres - priced at $20 for 2kg it is available from:

  • Aberfoyle Park Community Centre, Jessica Road, Aberfoyle Park
  • Elizabeth House, 112 Elizabeth Rd, Christie Downs
  • Wakefield House, 65 Acre Avenue, Morphett Vale
  • Seaford/Moana Neighbourhood Centre, Beechwood Grove, Seaford

or from Anne Ashwood, Aldinga 0459 126 603.
