River Road Noarlunga Downs

Located on the Onkaparinga River flood plain near ’Perry’s bend’, the River Road wetlands are the oldest constructed wetlands in the council area. Constructed during the 1980s, the River Road wetlands are also amongst the oldest constructed wetlands in the state.

Separate from the recently decommissioned sewerage treatment wetland immediately south, the wetlands treat stormwater from the Noarlunga Downs residential area before it discharges into the Onkaparinga River.

The wetland comprises three ponds. A small inlet, sedimentation pond with trash rack and two main ponds up to 2 metres deep. Flows discharge from the wetland via a channel into the Onkaparinga River.
