1001 Books Before School
The '1001 Books Before School' initiative aims to encourage families to participate in shared reading experiences before starting school.
Reading aloud with your child has proven to be one of the most valuable activities you can do to set your child up for success and encourage them to have a love of reading for life.
What better way to start them out on the right path than by reading them 1001 books before they go to school?
The average picture book takes just 5 minutes to read. Spend 15 minutes reading 3 books with your child each day and you will easily read over 1000 books in a year.
Every time you complete a book with your child, record the title or colour a square on your reading record.
A reward can be collected from your library at each milestone: 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900 and 1001 books with a certificate of completion at the end.
Onkaparinga Libraries would like to thank Hume Libraries for sharing this great initiative.
Onkaparinga Through Time
The Onkaparinga Through Time project ran in May this year and sought submissions of old photos from our residents which depicted local places, people and events.
These photos will be added to our Local History collection.
