2018-21 Strategic Tourism Plan

EarthCheck logoThe City of Onkaparinga is developing a new strategic tourism plan (2018-21) to succeed the current plan and acknowledge that tourism is a key economic driver for our local economy.  The plan will clearly articulate the tourism role for the City of Onkaparinga (local government) and set a strong vision and strategic direction for the next three years enabling visitation and visitor spend growth.

EarthCheck have been engaged to develop the new plan.  Stakeholder engagement has commenced, assisting in shaping the draft plan, which will be available for public consultation during Spring.

Creating Our Tourism Identity

The City of Onkaparinga is creating a tourism identity to assist increasing the number of visitors, creating more jobs and economic prosperity.

While McLaren Vale is a key attraction for local and interstate visitors to the region, we are considering how Onkaparinga presents itself as a whole. In particular we want to consider how a new tourism identity could recognise our coastal point of difference to other wine regions and also our diverse culture such as food growing and production, village life, contemporary art and the natural environment.

Onkaparinga currently attracts more than one million visitors a year who contribute $160 million to the local economy, but there is scope to attract more interstate and overseas visitors and we believe the identity is an important foundation to work from. The tourism identity will inform and assist us in promoting our city.

Brand communications agency FULLER have been commissioned to develop our tourism identity and messaging.
