Australia Day Bush FairAn estimated 10,000 people enjoyed our family friendly Australia Day Bush Fair (fireworks event) held from 6–9.30pm on Thursday 26 January 2012 on the South Adelaide Football Club (SAFC) oval.
There wasn’t a spare space on the oval as families laid out their picnic rugs in front of the main stage and enjoyed iconic Australian music by Oz Rock Live, children’s show Rumbo & Jumpo and bush dancing with Lasseters Gold.
Mayor Lorraine Rosenberg presented our Australia Day Awards. Congratulations to Bernard Smart Citizen of the Year, Lance Fakes Young Citizen of the Year and Southern Football League for their 125 year event 2011, Community Event of the Year.
Crows players Michael Doughty and Matt Jaench interacted with children, teaching them ball skills and posing for photos.
There were a variety of Aussie activities, art and games around the oval including roving entertainers, camel rides, native animals and face painting.
SAFC and Christies Beach Football Club held a fundraiser BBQ each whilst other vendors sold popcorn, drinks, coffee and snacks. Jimmy Deanes bar and bistro operated as normal.
The highlight of the evening was our city’s first ever 3D fireworks show synchronised to Australian themed music. The display didn’t disappoint with attendees amazed by the new visual effects.
We would like to thank SAFC for their support and involvement in the 2012 Australia Day Bush Fair.
