Public Art Framework

The City of Onkaparinga is committed to building strong vibrant communities through the provision of high quality arts and cultural opportunities and projects.

In February 2013 Council endorsed a Public Art Framework, which formalises our approach to commissioning, managing and promoting public art. The Framework provides the structure for defining agreed objectives and goals relating to the achievement of creative excellence, best practice management, public and private partnerships and the promotion and marketing of our public art.

Public Art opportunities will be advertised on this page.

For further information about please contact the Public Art Project Officer on 8301 7237 or janver@onkaparinga.sa.gov.au

Passage Gerry McMahon Gemmel Tassie Reserve, cnr Valley View Drive and Main Rd, McLaren Vale

Gemmel Tassie Reserve was previously owned by the Pridmore family. This sculpture symoblises the passing down, or giving, to the next generation.

The two sections, while close, don't touch. The small gap adds a dynamic expectation of the moment of connection to be imminent.

Then and Now Lorry Wedding-Marchioro Frank Hilton Reserve, Gulf Parade, Maslin Beach The inspiration for the artwork is based on the profusion of fossils which are available from the cliff faces of Maslins Beach. The discovery has proven a wonderful activity for many people over the years. As the design process progressed I realised that fossils bring to mind ideas of timelessness and history of place. The fossils being part of ancient history, the new public art installation being a new layer incorporated into the history of the community. With this sculpture I hope to produce a work which encourages a sense of reflection and contemplation whilst at the same time offering the chance to play and discover the work on an intimate level.
