Description Flax mill, Morphett Vale, S. Aust., 1944. The flax mill at Morphett Vale, S. Australia in August 1944. The image captures the record weekly consignment of flax line produced by the mill. The buildings in photo from left to right: The Mess, Administration, The fibre store, the scutching shed, the mill building. Also shown are mill workers from one of the three shifts.

Notes The flax mill was sited on Flaxmill Road nearly opposite to where the school is today. The flax mill at Morphett Vale was run by the Government for the war effort. The record week consignment produced by the mill was 8 tons 12cwt of flaxline, making a total for the month of 26 3/4 tons graded and despatched. The shipment was despatched from Morphett Vale to Houghtons, Adelaide.
