CommunityInfo Search Tips

The directory provides 3 search options:

• Organisation
• Subject
• Keyword

Organisation Name

Use Organisation Name when you know the name of the group you are looking for. Organisation Name is an alphabetical listing of all organisations in the City of Onkaparinga CommunityInfo database including acronyms, former names and alternative names. This section is similar to the whitepages.

Subjects

Subjects is an alphabetical listing of all services and topics covered in CommunityInfo. Use Subjects when you want to find organisations that cover a specific topic, for example counselling, waste disposal, asthma etc. When browsing the subjects list the database will provide narrower or broader search terms to assist you to find the required information.

Keyword Searching

Use the Search option to find specific words or phrases in any combination, anywhere in the database. To perform a keyword search, enter your keywords(s) in the search box provided.

Note: When your search command consists of more than one word, enclose your text with double quotes - eg "text here" - to ensure that the exact phrase is retrieved

Truncation

You can search for different words that start with the same letters. Type the first part of that word followed by an asterisk (*). For example apprentice* will retrieve every occurrence of the words apprentice, apprentices, apprenticeship and apprenticeships.

Use search operators to broaden or narrow your search
Search terms can be combined using the operators OR, AND NOT.

For example:

Dogs OR cats
will retrieve every document that contains either word or both words

Dogs AND NOT cats will retrieve every document that contains the word 'dogs' but will eliminate documents that include both words

Note: The search option enables you to undertake specific and complex searches of the database. However, broad search commands may retrieve a large amount of unwanted information, so you should construct your commands carefully.
