Council has a strong and active commitment to heritage conservation.
It has developed a set of initiatives to conserve and promote
both publicly and privately owned heritage places. These include:
With
funding assistance from Heritage SA, Council provides free
expert architectural advice for property owners of state and
local heritage items within the City of Onkaparinga. The advice
provided will generally relate to:
- how to maintain and conserve heritage buildings;
- how to redevelop/create additions to heritage buildings;
- possible funding sources;
- assistance with development applications.

The
Local Heritage Fund offers the owners of local heritage
properties a subsidy for work associated with the conservation
of their building(s). The subsidy is available for owners of
current local heritage listed places and provides for 30% of
the value of the conservation work, with a maximum subsidy
value of $3000.

Conservation
plans establish the heritage values of a place, as well as
identify conservation policies and maintenance mechanisms
appropriate in maintaining those heritage values. Conservation
plans generally comprise the following:
- history of the place;
- an architectural assessment;
- analysis of the physical condition of the place;
- statement of the heritage values of the place;
- constraints on conservation, including user and/or owner
requirements;
- conservation policies for the place and the site;
- measured drawings.
